A Mothers Love

A Mother’s Love

1 Kings 3:16–28

Solomon had just asked God for wisdom (1 Kings 3:9). This story was Solomon’s first test in revealing his wisdom in a delicate situation.

Two harlots had each given birth to a baby. One baby passed away because it was laid upon during the night while the mother was sleeping. Instead of admitting it, she lied and took the other woman’s baby during the night. In the morning, the mother of the living baby realized what had happened. ("Your sins will find you out" – Numbers 32:23)

Both women were arguing and fussing over this. Solomon’s wisdom was displayed. When Solomon said to cut the living baby in two pieces (1 Kings 3:24–25), he knew the true mother would speak up, and the problem would be solved (1 Kings 3:26–27).

Here’s the Point:

A true mother’s love will put her children first before herself. She will go without things in order to provide for her child (or children).

NOTE: Give an example of Pastor Jill’s own mother going without to provide clothes for her three children.
